RINDGE, N.H. (October 8, 2008) –
Junior forward Karrie Muma (North Falmouth, Mass./Bishop Stang)
scored the only goal of the game 20:04 into the first half on
Wednesday night to lead Saint Anselm to a 1-0 victory over the
Franklin Pierce University field hockey team in Northeast-10
Conference play at Sodexo Field.
Saint Anselm scored the only goal of the first half with just under
15 minutes remaining in the frame. Freshman midfielder Jordan
DiGeronimo (Fitchburg, Mass./Fitchburg) sent the ball towards the
cage from the left side. It snuck behind the Franklin Pierce
defense to Muma, who was near the right post and tapped it in to
give the Hawks the only goal they would need.
Franklin Pierce held a 4-0 shots advantage in a scoreless second
half and posted a 9-4 edge over the full 70 minutes. The Ravens
were awarded 14 penalty corners to three for Saint Anselm,
including an 8-2 edge in the second half, but were unable to find
the tying goal.
Junior goalkeeper Riley Haddock (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) made
five saves in front of the Saint Anselm cage to post the shutout.
Freshman Kristin Tormollan
(Waterville, Maine/Waterville) made one save for Franklin
Pierce in defeat.
