Franklin Pierce Hangs Tough In 2-1 Loss At Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. (September
22, 2007) – Franklin Pierce University hung tough
for 70 minutes against Stonehill College, ranked fifth in the
latest STX/NFHCA Div. II National Coaches Poll, but the Ravens fell
by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10
Conference field hockey match at W.B. Mason Stadium.
Graduate student Mary Beth Huszar (Greenville,
N.H./Mascenic Regional) helped to avoid the shutout with
her team-leading sixth goal of the season with 1:04 remaining in
the match, scoring on a penalty stroke. The forward has scored in
five consecutive games and six of the team’s last seven
matches.
With the goal, Huszar moves into sole possession of second place
on the school’s all-time goals-scored list with 18. Only
Debbie Jones ’03 sits in front of Huszar on the Franklin
Pierce all-time list, having scored 26 goals in a Ravens
uniform.
Stonehill’s Aly Boulis (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) recorded both
Skyhawk goals on the afternoon, scoring off the rebound of a
Caitlin Gleason (New Boston, N.H./Goffstown) shot 16 seconds into
the second half and then scoring the game-winning goal at the 52:39
mark.
Freshman Tevis Hannington (Canton, Mass./Notre Dame
Academy) made six saves to keep the Ravens in the match,
including five stops in the second half. Stonehill’s Dani
Ryder (Gloucester, Mass./Tantasqua) was forced to make five saves
to earn the win. On the afternoon, Stonehill held a slight 10-7
shot advantage.
Franklin Pierce (0-10, 0-7 NE-10) will continue conference play on
Monday afternoon, when the Ravens travel to Manchester, N.H., to
take on Saint Anselm at 4 p.m. Stonehill (9-1, 7-1 NE-10) will next
take the field against American International on Wednesday evening.
