RINDGE, N.H. (October 21, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce field hockey team suffered a tough 2-0 loss to Stonehill College, ranked No. 5 in this week’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll. The Skyhawks collected two first half goals to cruise to their conference-leading, 13th victory of the season.

Stonehill opened the scoring early in the first half as junior Colleen McLaughlin (Methuen, Mass./Methuen) recorded her first goal of the season off assists from seniors Kelley Latendresse (Sidney, Maine/Messalonskee) and Courtney Campbell (Reading, Mass./Reading). With 3:45 remaining in the first half, Campell added an insurance goal for the Skyhawks off a dish from Latendresse.

Franklin Pierce created several scoring opportunities throughout the second half, but Stonehill junior goalkeeper Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass./Tantasqua) registered four saves in the second frame to preserve the win. Franklin Pierce senior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) collected seven saves despite the loss, while Ryder finished with five stops for the Skyhawks.

Franklin Pierce (4-11, 4-9 NE-10) will be in action again on Monday as it hosts American International College at 6 p.m. Stonehill (13-3, 11-2 NE-10) will travel to Bryant University on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
