RINDGE, N.H. (October 4, 2006) – The Franklin Pierce field hockey team suffered a tough 5-0 setback to conference foe, UMass Lowell, ranked No. 6 in this week’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll. The River Hawks notched five second half goals to cruise to their eighth victory of the season.

Senior Sara Hohenberger (Windam, N.H./Salem) led the UMass Lowell attack, posting three goals, including her team-leading, 13th of the season. Sophomore Michelle Harrington (Rockport, Mass./Rockport) and classmate Missy Seeley (East Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) were also solid registering one goal apiece.

UMass Lowell limited Franklin Pierce to just seven shots throughout the match as River Hawk goalkeeper, senior Nicole Staiti (Barre, Mass./Quabbin Regional) posted four saves to earn her sixth victory of the season. Franklin Pierce goalkeeper, senior Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) made five saves despite the loss.

Franklin Pierce (3-6, 3-5 NE-10) will be in action again on Saturday as it travels to No. 3 ranked Bentley College for a match at noon. UMass Lowell (8-3, 6-2 NE-10) travels to No. 8 ranked Saint Michael’s College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
