Bryant Rolls Past Franklin Pierce, 4-1
Sadler and Libman carry Bulldogs to third straight victory

SMITHFIELD, R.I. (September 16, 2006)
– The Franklin Pierce field hockey team suffered a tough 4-1
loss to Bryant University in Northeast-10 Conference action this
evening at the Bryant Turf Complex. Bulldog senior Laynie Sadler
(Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) led all scorers with two goals,
while junior Shana Libman (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) registered
one goal and two assists.
Franklin Pierce came out firing early in the first half as junior
captain Elizabeth Ellis (Turner,
Maine/Leavitt) scored her first collegiate goal just 6:35
into the match to give the Ravens a 1-0 advantage. Bryant responded
just 0:12 later as Sadler took a Libman dish and posted her first
goal of the game to even the score at 1-1.
Bryant took a 2-1 advantage late in the first half as junior
Courtney O’Brien (Tewksbury, Mass./Tewksbury) recorded her
first goal of the season. In the second half, Libman and Sadler
each added insurance goals to preserve Bryant’s third victory
of the season.
Franklin Pierce goalkeeper, senior Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan
School) made eight saves in the loss, while Bryant freshman
goalkeeper Kundayi Mawema (Hare, Zimbabwe/Dominican Convent)
stopped two Raven shots to earn the victory.
Franklin Pierce (1-2, 1-2 NE-10) will be in action again on
Tuesday as it hosts No. 9 ranked, Saint Michaels College, at 6 p.m.
Bryant University (3-3, 3-1 NE-10) will host No. 5 ranked, Bentley
College, on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
