Franklin Pierce upsets No. 3 Bentley, 3-2 (OT)

Mary Beth Huszar scored the game-winning goal in overtime on
Saturday against Bentley.

RINDGE, N.H. (October 1, 2005) –
The Franklin Pierce field hockey team scored a goal just three
minutes into the overtime period to upset No. 3 ranked, in the
STX/NFHCA Weekly Division II National Coaches Poll, Bentley
College, 3-2 at Sodexho Field this afternoon.
This marks the first time in 11 matches that Franklin Pierce has
defeated Bentley College, who was the 2004 NCAA Division II
National runners-up last year. Bentley College has earned five NCAA
Division II national championship bids (1999-2002, 2004), six
Northeast-10 Conference regular season championships, and seven
NE-10 playoff crowns.
Senior Trisha Langevin
(Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) started the scoring for
Franklin Pierce, as she netted her second goal of the season off a
pass from senior captain Amy
McMullin (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonske) with 12:10 remaining
in the first half.
Bentley junior Kristen Allen (Portland, Maine/Deering) fired back
for the Falcons, scoring her sixth goal of the season with 23:41
remaining in the second half. Sophomore Cristina Sergi (Weston,
Mas
s./Weston) gave the Falcons the lead just over a minute later when
she deposited a shot into the back of net off a feed from junior
Lindsay Harrington (Atkinson, N.H./Timberlane Regional).
Franklin Pierce rallied back, when freshman Jenee Clifford (Sandown,
N.H./Timberlane) fired a shot pass Bentley goalkeeper
Kristin Johnson (Reading, Mass./Reading) with 15:23 remaining in
the game to equalize the score at 2-2.
At the end of regulation the teams were tied 2-2. Franklin Pierce
would answer just three minutes into the overtime period when
junior Mary Beth Huszar
(Greenville, N.H./Greenville) scored her team-leading sixth
goal of the season to secure the win for the Ravens.
Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan
School) registered seven saves in the match while Johnson
stopped five shots for Bentley.
Franklin Pierce (4-7, 2-7 NE-10) will be in action again on
Tuesday, when it hosts No. 8 Saint Michaels College at 6 p.m.
Bentley College (9-2, 8-2 NE-10) will travel to Bryant College on
Tuesday for a match at 4 p.m.
