Franklin Pierce falls to Southern Connecticut, 6-0
Sanford earns third shutout of the season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (September 17, 2005)
– Franklin Pierce suffered a tough 6-0 loss to Southern
Connecticut State University in Northeast-10 Conference action at
Jess Dow Field this afternoon.
Southern Connecticut State University spread out its scoring as it
had six different players score goals to lead the Owls to victory.
Sophomore Angela Cafarelli (Enfield, Conn./Enfield) started the
scoring with 16:59 remaining in the first half as she scored off a
feed from senior co-captain Cathy Cardini (Willington, Conn./EO
Smith). Cardini would score the second goal of the game just 2:25
later. Freshman Grace Martha (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) scored the
third goal of the first half with 11:57 remaining.
In the second half, Southern Connecticut would add three more
goals to its total with scores by seniors Carlie McDermott
(Westford, Conn./Hall), Cori Krajewski (Carmel, N.Y./Carmel), and
Shaunnaya Williams (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk).
Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn. / The Morgan
School) stopped eight shots for Franklin Pierce, while
Southern Connecticut senior goalkeeper Casey Sanfor
d (North Haven, Conn./North Haven) stopped five shots on route to
her third shutout of the
season.
Franklin Pierce (1-6, 1-6 NE-10) will be in action again when it
hosts American International College on Thursday at 6 p.m. Southern
Connecticut State University (5-3, 5-1 NE-10) will play Thursday at
7 p.m. when it hosts Assumption College.
