Hughes nets two in Greyhounds win

Amanda Pietraszuk Amanda Pietraszuk matched her career high with 16 saves on Thursday at Assumption.

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 8, 2005) – Franklin Pierce suffered a tough 3-0 loss to Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Multi-Sports Stadium this afternoon.

Freshman Jill Hughes (Brownsville, Vt./Windsor) led the Assumption attack scoring two goals on the day. Hughes opened the scoring with 10:25 remaining in the first half off a feed from classmate Maura Strickland (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield). Hughes added her second goal with 0:53 seconds remaining in the game off a pass from sophomore Sarah Bullock (Chelmsford, Mass. /Chelmsford).

Senior Meghan Atkins (Weybridge, Vt./Middlebury) added to the Assumption offense, scoring a goal with 28:09 remaining in the second half off a pass from senior captain Sarah Roy (Fairhaven, Mass./Bishop Stang).

Franklin Pierce junior goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn. /The Morgan School) matched a career-high with 16 saves for the Ravens, while junior Kaitlin Burke (Falmouth, Mass. /Falmouth) stopped five shots for Assumption.

Franklin Pierce (1-3, 1-3 NE-10) will be in action on Saturday, when it hosts Bryant University at 1 p.m. Assumption (2-1, 2-1 NE-10) will travel to UMass Lowell on Saturday for a contest at 1 p.m.
