The Franklin Pierce field hockey team suffered a 4-1 loss to host
UMass Lowell in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon. With
the win, the River Hawks remain undefeated, both overall and in
conference play.
UMass Lowell scored two quick goals in the contest and would never
look back. Junior forward Courtney Hill (Newburyport,
Mass./Northeastern) got things started just 3:12 into the game,
taking advantage of a penalty corner to notch her first of two
goals on the day. Classmate Taylor Kloss (Georgetown,
Mass./Georgetown) tallied her fourth goal of the season 39 seconds
later on a pass from senior Alysia Morgan (Gardner,
Mass./Gardner).
The River Hawks took a 3-0 advantage when sophomore Sara
Hohenberger (Windham, N.H./Salem) took a pass from senior Jacklyn
Driscoll (Waltham, MA/Waltham) and scored her fourth goal of the
season. Sophomore forward Collette
Brady (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) scored the lone goal
for Franklin Pierce late in the first half off a feed from junior
Alissa Silverman (East Sandwich,
Mass./Sandwich).
In the second half, Hill picked up her second goal of the game and
eighth the season, while the UMass Lowell defense stymied the
Ravens’ attack. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Staiti (Barre,
Mass.)/Quabbin Regional) picked up the win for the River Hawks,
saving five shots. Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan
School) dropped to 0-2 for the year, as she surrendered
three goals on six shots before giving way to Brandi Guertin (Bellingham,
Mass./Bellingham) in the second half.
Franklin Pierce (2-3, 2-3 NE-10) will return to action on Tuesday,
as they host Saint Michael’s College at 4 p.m. in a
Northeast-10 Conference matchup. UMass Lowell (8-0, 6-0 NE-10) will
host non-conference foe Mercyhurst tomorrow at 11 a.m.
