Franklin Pierce Falls to UMass Lowell, 4-1

River Hawks cruise past Ravens to remain unbeaten

Lowell, Mass. (September 18, 2004) - The Franklin Pierce field hockey team suffered a 4-1 loss to host UMass Lowell in Northeast-10 Conference action this afternoon. With the win, the River Hawks remain undefeated, both overall and in conference play.

UMass Lowell scored two quick goals in the contest and would never look back. Junior forward Courtney Hill (Newburyport, Mass./Northeastern) got things started just 3:12 into the game, taking advantage of a penalty corner to notch her first of two goals on the day. Classmate Taylor Kloss (Georgetown, Mass./Georgetown) tallied her fourth goal of the season 39 seconds later on a pass from senior Alysia Morgan (Gardner, Mass./Gardner).

The River Hawks took a 3-0 advantage when sophomore Sara Hohenberger (Windham, N.H./Salem) took a pass from senior Jacklyn Driscoll (Waltham, MA/Waltham) and scored her fourth goal of the season. Sophomore forward Collette Brady (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) scored the lone goal for Franklin Pierce late in the first half off a feed from junior Alissa Silverman (East Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich).

In the second half, Hill picked up her second goal of the game and eighth the season, while the UMass Lowell defense stymied the Ravens’ attack. Sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Staiti (Barre, Mass.)/Quabbin Regional) picked up the win for the River Hawks, saving five shots. Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Amanda Pietraszuk (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) dropped to 0-2 for the year, as she surrendered three goals on six shots before giving way to Brandi Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) in the second half.

Franklin Pierce (2-3, 2-3 NE-10) will return to action on Tuesday, as they host Saint Michael’s College at 4 p.m. in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup. UMass Lowell (8-0, 6-0 NE-10) will host non-conference foe Mercyhurst tomorrow at 11 a.m.
