Franklin Pierce Tops Merrimack in Overtime, 2-1

Jones nets game winner to lead Ravens to second-straight victory

RINDGE, N.H. (October 2, 2002) - Junior Debbie Jones (Escondido, Calif./Bishops) netted the game winning goal in overtime to lift the Franklin Pierce field hockey team past Merrimack College, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action this afternoon. The win is the Ravens' second-straight Conference victory this season.

Merrimack broke open the scoring with 24:01 left in the first stanza, as Ali Crawford converted a pass from teammate Courtney Frangioso to go up by one.

The Warriors held off the Ravens until the 26:39 mark of the second stanza when sophomore Sarah Lavway (Unity, Maine/Mount View) set up Jones to knot the game 1-1.

The teams headed into overtime, deadlocked at one goal apiece when Jones netted the game winner with 7:44 left in the extra period for the win.

Franklin Pierce senior goalkeeper, Kasey McClements (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) made 16 saves in net for her second win of the season. Merrimack's Kate McCone made seven saves despite the loss.

Franklin Pierce (2-6, 2-2 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday when it hosts American International College in its first home game of the season on the new playing field on the campus of Franklin Pierce College. Merrimack (1-7, 1-5 NE-10) next travels to Bryant College on Saturday for a Conference matchup at 1 p.m.
