UMass Lowell Hands FP 2-0 Loss
LOWELL, Mass. (October 16, 2001) - The
Franklin Pierce University Women's field hockey suffered their
second straight shutout, as they were blanked by UMass Lowell by a
score of 2-0.
The teams were scoreless through nearly 51 minutes of play until
the Stacey Marolda converted a pass from teammate Sarah Ouellet to
up the River Hawks 1-0 at the 5:55 mark of the second half.
The River Hawks struck again just minutes later at the 8:24 mark of
the second half when sophomore Martha Marsden scored on a pass from
classmate Laura Petros to make the final -- UMass Lowell 2,
Franklin Pierce 0.
FPC's Kasey McClements (Ashland,
Mass./Ashland) made one save in 35 minutes of play, and
Irene Smith (Olivebridge,
N.Y./Onteora) made nine stops in 35 minutes in net for the
Ravens. Lowell's Patrice Mendoza grabbed two saves in the win.
Franklin Pierce (5-10, 4-5 NE-10) returns to action on Thursday
when they face Saint Anselm College for a Northeast-10 Conference
battle at 4 p.m. at Winchendon School. UMass Lowell (7-10, 4-5
NE-10) next faces Lock Haven University in a non-conference matchup
on their home turf at 1 p.m.
