FP Field Hockey Falls to Houghton College, 8-0
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (September 22, 2001) -
The Franklin Pierce University women's field hockey team was
shutout by Houghton College by a score of 8-0 this afternoon.
Houghton's Rochelle Hershey (Ephrata, Penn./Conestoga Valley)
helped the Highlanders jump out to the early lead, as she netted
two of her four goals within the first ten minutes of the contest.
Briana Burghardt (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) put the Highlanders up
by three goals when she scored on a penalty stroke at the 17:24
mark of the 1st half. By the end of the 1st half, the Highlanders
added three more goals and claimed a 6-0 advantage.
The Highlanders tacked on two more goals in the second half to
bring the final to Houghton 8, FP 0.
FPC's Kasey McClements (Ashland,
Mass./Ashland) made 16 saves in 52 minutes of play, and
Irene Smith (Olivebridge,
N.Y./Onteora) posted two saves in 18 minutes for the Ravens.
Houghton netminder Amy Petersen (St. George, Ont./Southwood
Secondary) made no saves in 70 minutes of play.
Franklin Pierce returns to the field on Sunday, Sept. 23, when they
face Division II National Champions, Lock Haven University at 1
p.m. in Lock Haven.
