FP Field Hockey Team To Host NE-10 Tourney Match
Ravens to Face Bryant Wednesday at Winchendon School
RINDGE, N.H. (October 23, 2000) - The
rewards of a winning season are paying off for the Franklin Pierce
University field hockey team.
The Ravens, whose 10 wins this year are two more than the team
produced in its three previous years competing at the varsity
level, will host Bryant College in the first round of the
Northeast-10 Conference tournament Wednesday at the Winchendon
(Mass.) School at 3 p.m.
The Ravens are seeded fourth in the six-team tournament and are
10-6 overall, 6-3 in the NE-10. The Bulldogs are seeded fifth after
going 6-11 during the regular season, 5-4 in the NE-10.
This will be the second time Bryant and FP have faced each other.
During a regular-season game in Winchendon on September 26, the
Ravens rallied for a 4-2 win in a driving rain storm.
After Bryant jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of goals by
Elizabeth Gunn (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) in the opening 10 minutes of
the rain-soaked contest, the Ravens rallied for three goals in the
final 17 minutes.
FP got one back on a goal by Debbie Jones (Escondido, Calif.) with
20 minutes left in the first half, but went into the half trailing
2-1.
Karen Clarke (Brewster,
N.Y.) tied the game in the 54th minute and Kelly Henry (Wyoming, R.I.) put the
Ravens ahead five minutes later. Chrystean Page (Turner, Maine), who had
a goal waived off in the first half, added an insurance marker with
3:20 left.
The winner would move on to the semifinal round Friday to play
top-seeded St. Michael's in Colchester, Vt., at 3 p.m. The Purple
Knights, who FP beat during the regular season, received a
first-round bye.
