FP Field Hockey Team Stumbles in NE-10 Finale
UMass Lowell Rallies for 3-2 win
WINCHENDON, Mass. (October 21, 2000) -
The Franklin Pierce University field hockey team had its final
Northeast-10 Conference regular-season match spoiled Saturday as
UMass Lowell rallied for a 3-2 win at the Winchendon School.
The Ravens (9-6, 6-3 NE-10) built a 2-1 lead on second-half goals
by Heidi Nichols (Fremont,
N.H.) and Karen Clarke
(Brewster, N.Y.), but could not protect the advantage.
UMass Lowell (9-10, 3-6 NE-10) tied the game in the 56th minute on
a goal by Kelly Ward (Byfield, Mass.) and scored the game-winner in
the 67th minute when Keri Noyes (Byfield, Mass.) batted in a pass
from Julie Heroux (Bridgewater, Mass.).
The River Hawks came up with the only goal of the first half when
Mary Ruggles (Townsend, Mass.) scored on an assist from Ward. UMass
Lowell sophomore Patrice Mendoza (Wilmington, Mass.) sparked in net
for the River Hawks, making 22 saves.
The loss was FPC's first at home, snapping a six-game win streak
there.
The Ravens wrap up the regular season at home Monday with a
non-league match against St. Joseph's College. They are expected to
host Bryant College in the first round of the NE-10 playoffs on
Wednesday.
