Field Hockey Downs Stonehill In Northeast-10 Action, 2-1
EASTON, Mass. (October 7, 2000) --
Senior sisters Karen and
Kristen Clarke (Brewster,
N.Y.) hooked up on what proved to be the game-winning goal
in the 24th minute as Franklin Pierce held off Stonehill by a 2-1
final in a Northeast-10 Conference field hockey match Saturday
afternoon at Gorman Field.
The Ravens (7-4, 5-2 Northeast-10) struck first just 3:29 into the
match on senior Heidi Nichols'
(Fremont, N.H.) goal, and the Clarke sisters combined for
the visitors' second tally in the 24th minute, with Karen netting
the goal and Kristen posting the assists.
The host Lady Chieftains (6-8, 2-5 Northeast-10) cut their deficit
to one in the 42nd minute when sophomore Melissa Paratore (Belmont)
converted a feed from senior Jennifer Grimes (Ipswich) for her
second goal of the season, but Stonehill came no closer despite
three penalty corner opportunities in the closing minutes of the
contest.
Sophomore Kasey McClements
(Ashland) picked up the win in goal for Franklin Pierce,
making 18 saves on the afternoon, while sophomore Cindy Pultz
(Bellingham) was equally busy in net for Stonehill with a 15-save
effort. Each team had 22 shots on goal for the match.
Stonehill, which saw its three-game winning streak come to an end
with the setback, hosts UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference
match on Monday afternoon at Gorman Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
