Cross Country Finishes Eighth at Golden Knights Joust

Garrity finishes 44th in 23:01 to pace Ravens

COLONIE, N.Y. (October 22, 2010) – Sophomore Jillian Garrity (Manchester, N.H.) finished 44th overall in a time of 23:01 on Friday afternoon to lead the Franklin Pierce University cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Golden Knights Joust, hosted by Saint Rose at The Crossings of Colonie. Southern New Hampshire junior Emma Lundberg won the individual title with a time of 18:42, while Bentley collected the team title.

Two spots behind Garrity, junior Melissa Dymek (Hubbardston, Mass.) placed 46th with a time of 23:20, while sophomore Keri Marnane (Cranston, R.I.) also finished in the top 50, at 48th, with a time of 23:42. Farther back, freshman Natasha Pastor (Fitzwilliam, N.H.) and sophomore Brittany Mather (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished one after the other to round out Franklin Pierce's scoring in the meet. Pastor placed 56th at 25:07, while Mather finished 57th at 25:12.

Juniors Elizabeth Iannuccillo (Amesbury, Mass.) and Ciara Chicas (Westerly, R.I.) wrapped up participation in the event for the Ravens. Iannuccillo was 63rd with a time of 27:12, while Chicas placed 64th at 29:37.

Bentley (29 points) put four runners in the top seven to run away with the Golden Knights Joust's team title, as the Falcons finished 56 points ahead of Southern New Hampshire (85). Le Moyne (91), St. Thomas Aquinas (103) and Saint Rose (107) rounded out the top five.

Individually, Lundberg finished 14 seconds in front of Bentley freshman Ashley Nichols (18:56), who placed second. Bentley senior Lauren Lesniak (19:00), St. Thomas Aquinas junior Sarah Callagy (19:00) and Bentley sophomore Amy Varsell (19:01) finished third through fifth, respectively, to close out the top five.

The Ravens return to action on Sunday, Nov. 7, when they close out the season at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, hosted by Stonehill.
