Volleyball Bested by SNHU in Straight Sets

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 29, 2021) – The Franklin Pierce University volleyball team fell in three straight sets (22-25, 21-25, 14-25), to Northeast-10 conference rival Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday night at Stan Spirou Field House.

Junior Ingrid Lindstrom (Dudley, Mass.) led the Ravens offense with seven kills and a .267 hitting percentage. Junior Tessa Brandt (Foster, R.I.) and freshman Hannah Hillis (San Clemente, Calif.) followed behind with five kills apiece, as Hillis posted a .138 clip. Senior Cierra Dolan (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) added four kills of her own.

Sophomore Maddie Ward (Wolfeboro, N.H.) handed out a team-leading 16 assists, while fellow classmate Morgan Schmutzler (Lockport, Ill.)  tallied a team best 10 digs. Ward and Brandt totaled eight digs each, and Brandt registered two aces on the night.

In the first set, Franklin Pierce quickly jumped to a 6-1 lead, before SNHU knotted it up at six apiece. The Ravens and Penman traded points back-and-forth to tie it up 14-14. Southern New Hampshire grabbed three consecutive points to take a 17-14 lead, before pulling even further ahead to make it a 24-20 set. FPU took the next two points to close in on the Penman's 24-22 lead, but SNHU won, 25-22, on a kill from Grace Pierce of SNHU.

Franklin Pierce and Southern New Hampshire tied several times to start the second set, eventually coming to a 11-11 draw. SNHU went on a 9-6 run to lead 20-17, before FPU collected three consecutive points, tying it at 20-20. The Penman went on another run, tallying five points to the Ravens' one to finish out the set with a 25-21 win.

The final set saw Southern New Hampshire earn nine straight points to start, and never looking back. As the Penman lead 24-10, the Ravens started to pick up momentum, notching four consecutive points, trailing 24-14, but SNHU was able to grab the match point to win 25-14.

The Ravens welcome Bentley to the Field House on Tuesday, October 5, for a NE10 match up. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
