Volleyball drops 3-0 decision to Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (September 12, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce volleyball team had a tough go around in their first official road match, as the Ravens dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of Bridgeport.

Bridgeport came out of the gate strong and didn't look back, as both Sarah Rosa and Biljana Savic each recorded double figure kills for the Purple Knights. Rosa completely dominated, slamming home 17 kills, while Savic chipped in 11.

For Franklin Pierce, errors were the name of the game, and were something they could not shake loose. The Ravens had 26 different errors over the three sets, mostly coming on the attacking front. Senior Catie Swiderski (Rocky Point, N.Y.) led the Ravens with nine kills, while freshman Hannah Runge (Deltona, Fla.) dished out a team high 14 assists. Junior Sarah MacHugh (Red Hook, N.Y.) led the Ravens in digs with 12. Next close to that number were Runge and junior Catherine Purdy (Ossining, N.Y.) who recorded nine apiece.

Giovana Soares set up a monster 36 assists and scooped up 11 digs for Bridgeport, while Ying Shen (17) and Michele Santos (18) also recorded double-digit digs. As a team, the Purple Knights also acted like a brick wall, recording eight team blocks.

The Ravens take the court with a doubleheader on Saturday, as they take on New Haven at 11 a.m. and Queens (N.Y.) at 1:30 p.m.
