Bentley Slips Past Volleyball, 3-2

Katie Ristow Katie Ristow contributed a double-double with 12 kills and a team-high 15 digs on Thursday night at Bentley.

WALTHAM, Mass. (October 2, 2008) – Junior Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian) collected 12 kills and a team-best 15 digs on Thursday night to tally a double-double, but the Franklin Pierce University volleyball team was defeated, 3-2, by Bentley in Northeast-10 Conference action at Dana Center. Junior Alex Kearney (La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla) posted a double-double for Bentley with 13 kills and 11 digs.

Bentley took a 2-0 lead with a pair of 25-23 wins in the match’s first two sets. From there, Franklin Pierce rallied to tie the match 2-2 with a 26-24 victory in the third set and a 25-20 triumph in the fourth set. However, Bentley closed out the match with a 15-10 victory in the decisive fifth set.

For Franklin Pierce, Ristow led the way with her 15-dig, 12-kill double-double. Fellow junior Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina) joined Ristow in double figures offensively with a team-high 13 kills. Senior Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) also notched a double-double for the Ravens with a match-high 37 assists to go with 11 digs. Defensively, sophomore Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich./L’Anse Creuse) also reached double figures with 13 digs while senior Nicole Buchholz (Broadlands, Va./Stone Bridge) tied for the match lead with seven blocks (two solo).

For Bentley, Kearney posted a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs and was joined in double digits offensively by junior Kristine Mickelson (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) and sophomore Alaura Berry (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) with 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Berry recorded seven blocks to key the Falcons defensive efforts along with junior Cassie Kraft (New Braunfels, Texas/St. Mary’s Hall), who tallied a match-best 19 digs. Senior Tori Piskulick (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) organized the offensive attack with 34 assists.

The Ravens (8-12, 1-3 NE-10) return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 4, when they return home to host Southern Connecticut State in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The match is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Fieldhouse in Rindge, N.H. Bentley (12-6, 6-0 NE-10) returns to action on Oct. 7 at Merrimack.
