LOWELL, Mass. (September 13, 2008)
– Senior Emily Schultz
(Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) tallied a triple-double with
10 kills, 15 assists and 14 digs against on Saturday, but the
Franklin Pierce University volleyball team lost twice at the UMass
Lowell Invitational held at Costello Gym. The Ravens lost 3-2 to
Merrimack before falling 3-1 to Georgian Court.
The Ravens took the first two sets from Merrimack by identical
25-23 scores. However, Merrimack rallied for 25-11, 25-13 and 15-11
victories in the final three sets to win the match.
Against Merrimack, Schultz led the way with Franklin
Pierce’s first triple-double of the season as she piled up 15
assists, 14 digs and 10 kills. Senior Nicole Buchholz (Broadlands, Va./Stone
Bridge) contributed eight kills, five blocks (one solo) and
a pair of service aces in the day’s first match.
Franklin Pierce was also able to win the first set against
Georgian Court, 26-24. However, Georgian Court would sweep the
match from there, with set wins of 25-22, 25-10 and 25-11.
In Franklin Pierce’s final match of the weekend, Buchholz
tallied seven kills, two blocks (one solo) and an assist. Senior
Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo,
Calif./Adolfo Camarillo) dished out 20 assists.
The Ravens (2-6, 1-0 NE-10) return to the court on Monday, Sept.
15, when they return home to host Post in a non-conference contest.
Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Fieldhouse in Rindge, N.H.
