Volleyball Falls To Massachusetts Lowell In Day One Action At UMass Lowell Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. (September 12, 2008)
– Sophomore Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, Calif./Yucaipa) posted a
double-double with 15 kills and 13 digs on Friday evening to lead
Massachusetts Lowell to a 3-1 victory over the Franklin Pierce
University volleyball team in non-conference play at Costello Gym.
Junior Katie Ristow (Miami,
Fla./Miami Killian) led Franklin Pierce with 12 kills. The
contest was part of first-day action at the UMass Lowell
Invitational.
Franklin Pierce fell into a 2-0 hole out of the gate as it dropped
the first two sets, 25-12 and 25-20. The Ravens then squeaked out a
25-22 victory in the third set before dropping the fourth set 25-11
to finish the match.
Ristow led the Franklin Pierce offense on the evening with 12
kills and chipped in five digs on defense as well. Senior Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo,
Calif./Camarillo) dished out 38 assists in the match and
also contributed six digs. Junior Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina)
was active on both sides of the ball with nine kills and seven
digs.
For Massachusetts-Lowell, junior Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch,
Colo./Mountain Vista) led three Riverhawks in double figures with
17 kills. Hadder hammered out 15 kills while sophomore Sarah Coscia
(Pittsfield, Mass./Pittsfield) chipped in 10 of her own. Hadder
added 13 digs to complete the double-double while LeGrand narrowly
missed a double-double of her own with a match-high nine blocks
(five solo). Junior Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, Mass./Dracut) dished
out 39 assists and served up five aces, both match highs.
The Ravens (2-4, 1-0 NE-10) return to the court on Saturday with a
pair of matches at the second day of the UMass Lowell Invitational.
Franklin Pierce will take on Merrimack in a non-conference contest
at 11 a.m. before facing off with Georgian Court at 1 p.m. Franklin
Pierce’s next home match is on Sept. 15 against Post at 7
p.m. Massachusetts Lowell (3-2, 0-1 NE-10) also takes on both
Georgian Court and Merrimack on Saturday.
