Franklin Pierce Takes Out Saint Michael’s in Three Games

Buchholz leads all players with 14 kills; Schultz posts season-high 36 assists

COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 16, 2007) – Franklin Pierce University received a match-high 14 kills from junior co-captain Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) as the Ravens defeated Saint Michael’s College by a score of 3-0 (30-26, 30-25, 30-18) in a Northeast-10 Conference women’s volleyball match on Tuesday evening at the Ross Sports Center.

Buchholz led a multi-faceted Raven attack with 14 kills and added four digs and two blocks. Sophomores Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, Texas/Medina) and Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian Senior HS) both recorded nine kills for the Ravens, while redshirt freshman Michelle Koike (San Francisco, Calif./Gonzaga University) posted eight kills and five blocks. Koike’s five blocks tied sophomore teammate Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) for the match high, while Feldmeth also added a season-high five service aces for the second consecutive match.

Junior Emily Schultz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) also had an excellent match as the Ravens’ primary setter, recording a season-high 36 assists and posting seven digs and five kills on a blistering .833 hitting percentage.

Lindsey Frazier (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) was the lone Purple Knight to reach double-digits in kills with 10 to lead the Saint Michael’s attack, while Amy Manougian (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) recorded 31 assists and 12 digs.

Franklin Pierce pieced together one of its best offensive performances of the season, with a match hitting percentage of .248, including five players with percentages of .200 or above. After taking a pair of tough games to go ahead, 2-0, the Ravens had 16 kills on only five errors (.355) in the third game to cruise to the victory.

Franklin Pierce (15-12, 9-3 NE-10) moved into a tie for third place in the Northeast-10 with Merrimack College with the win, although the Warriors now hold four conference matches in hand on the Ravens. Franklin Pierce steps out of conference action on Friday with matches against Dowling and Georgian Court on the campus of Bryant University, while Saint Michael’s (6-14, 2-8 NE-10) takes part in the Skidmore Tournament beginning on Friday.
