Franklin Pierce Splits Two at NE-10/ECC Challenge

Katie Ristow hammered out a career-best 20 kills to go with nine digs on Saturday against NYIT.

WALTHAM, Mass. (September 22, 2007) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s volleyball team split two games on Saturday afternoon at the Northeast-10/ECC Challenge, held at the Dana Center on the campus of Bentley College. In the first match of the day, the Ravens defeated the New York Institute of Technology by a score of 3-1 (30-25, 28-30, 30-27, 31-29), but the Ravens dropped their second match to Dowling College, 3-0 (30-21, 30-21, 30-23).

Sophomore Katie Ristow (Miami, Fla./Miami Killian Senior HS) played a big role in Franklin Pierce’s four-game win over NYIT, recording a career-high 20 kills to go along with nine digs, four blocks and two service aces. The 20 kills marked the highest total recorded by a Ravens player this season. Classmate Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) also had another excellent outing for the Ravens with a career-high 19 kills and four blocks.

Freshman Chelsie Kohout (Harrison Township, Mich./L’Anse Creuse) and junior co-captain Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) led the Ravens in digs against the Bears, as Kohout surpassed her season-best by 11 with a career-high 41 digs, while Hookstadt had a season-high 19 digs to go along with 45 assists and seven kills.

Franklin Pierce had trouble with powerful Dowling College in the second match, falling in three games. Feldmeth recorded a team-high nine kills for the Ravens, while junior co-captain Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) posted three kills and a team-high six blocks, giving her 15 blocks on the day. Hookstadt contributed 18 assists to lead the team while adding five blocks and three kills.

Feldmeth and Kohout both earned spots on the nine-member All-Tournament team. Feldmeth recorded 33 kills in the three matches (3.00 kills/game), while Kohout posted 68 digs over the two days (6.18 digs/game).

Franklin Pierce (9-9, 3-1 NE-10) returns to conference play on Monday with the first of five consecutive NE-10 matches, as the Ravens travel to Assumption College for a 7 p.m. match.
