Franklin Pierce Falls Twice in Tri-Match

Jessica Ward Jessica Ward piled up 18 kills on Sunday at Southern New Hampshire.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (Oct. 2, 2005) – The Franklin Pierce volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to Southern New Hampshire University and University of Bridgeport this afternoon at the Southern New Hampshire Field house. The Ravens lost the first match 3-2 (31-29, 30-27, 26-30, 27-30, 15-4) to Southern New Hampshire while dropping the second match, 3-0 (30-25, 35-33, 30-27), to the University of Bridgeport.

In the first match, senior captain Brittany Porter (Riverton, WY./Riverton) and freshman Nicky Dumond (Tewksbury, Mass./Notre Dame) paced Southern New Hampshire. Porter totaled a game high 27 kills, while Dumond contributed with 23 assists, eight digs and three aces.

The Ravens were led by senior Jessica Ward (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) who totaled 18 kills for the Ravens. Freshmen Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) and Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) were also solid for the Ravens. Buchholz contributed 15 kills while Hookstadt chipped in with 39 assists.

In the second match, University of Bridgeport was led by senior Tijana Bokic (Subotica, Serbia/Dickinson Univ). Bokic totaled 22 kills and 10 digs in the match-up. Also leading the charge for the Purple Knights was Jessica Bornack (Roselle, IL/Lake Park) and senior Sinead Quirk (Wheaton, IL/Glenbard South). Bornack compiled 13 kills and 12 digs while Quirk contributed 53 assists.

Franklin Pierce co-captain, junior Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Washington) led the Ravens with 11 kills and seven digs. Also chipping in for the Ravens was senior co-captain Tara Vece (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School) with 20 digs in the match.

Franklin Pierce (5-9, 4-2 NE-10) returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Post University for a match starting at 5 p.m. Southern New Hampshire University (5-9, 1-4 NE-10) will host Stonehill College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. University of Bridgeport will be in action again on Tuesday when it travels to Mercy College for a match at 7 p.m.
