UMass Lowell beats Franklin Pierce, 3-1
Buchholz leads Ravens in loss

LOWELL, Mass. (Sept. 29, 2005) –
The Franklin Pierce volleyball team suffered a tough, 3-1 loss
(23-30, 16-30, 30-23, 28-30) to University of Massachusetts Lowell
in Northeast-10 Conference action this evening at Costello Gym.
UMass Lowell senior outside hitter Julie Handy (Yorba Linda, CA)
compiled 28 kills, 18 digs and five block assists to lead UML.
Junior setter Caitlin Harte (East Rochester, NH) led the team with
56 assists and 11 service points while adding 16 digs.
Franklin Pierce freshman Nicole
Buchholz (Ashburn, Va/Stone Bridge) led the Raven’s
attack, registering 11 kills and four blocks. Senior Jessica Ward (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan
School) contributed with 10 kills and six digs in the
match.
Freshman setter Karissa Hookstadt
(Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) also played solid for the
Ravens contributing with 23 assists, four digs, three service aces,
and two kills. Senior captain Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre
Wellington) chipped in with eight kills, five digs, a block
and an assist.
Franklin Pierce (5-6, 4-1 NE-10) returns to action Saturday when
it hosts Pace University at 2 p.m. UMass Lowell (9-2, 3-1 NE-10)
will be in action again Saturday when it hosts Southern Connecticut
State University at 1 p.m.
