Franklin Pierce Upended By Saint Rose, 3-0

RINDGE, N.H. (Oct. 2, 2004) – The Franklin Pierce volleyball team was defeated by the College of Saint Rose 3-0 (30-20, 30-22, 30-19) this afternoon in Northeast-10 competition. With the win, the visiting Golden Knights improve their overall record to 7-7 and their league mark to 4-1. The Ravens drop to 5-8 overall and 3-5 in league play.

Sophomore middle hitter Michaela Jorgensen (Candor, N.Y./Candor) sparked Saint Rose with 12 kills and five digs, while freshman Sally Munter (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) led the team with 14 kills and four block assists. The Golden Knights received a solid overall performance by sophomore outside hitter Jessie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock), who posted a team leading eleven digs and four aces to go along with seven kills. Orchestrating the Saint Rose offense was sophomore setter Shannon Campbell (Clinton, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), who had 31 assists.

Senior co-captain Briana Bates (Belmont, N.H./Endicott College) and sophomore outside hitter Christina Collett (Tombstone, Ariz./Tombstone) each had seven kills for Franklin Pierce. Junior Jessica Ward (Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) chipped in with ten digs and five kills, while sophomore Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) posted six kills and five digs. Freshman setter Bria Williams (Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) led the Ravens offense with 21 assists, and junior co-captain Tara Vece (Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) added 21 digs on the defensive side.

Franklin Pierce (5-8, 3-5) will next be in action tomorrow, when Le Moyne College comes to town for a Northeast-10 Conference match beginning at noon. Saint Rose (7-7, 4-1) will also play tomorrow, as they return home for a league match versus Saint Anselm College at noon.
