Bentley Spikes Franklin Pierce, 3-0
RINDGE, N.H. (Sept. 21, 2004) –
The Franklin Pierce volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (30-21, 30-28,
30-28) setback to visiting Bentley College in Northeast-10
Conference action this evening. With the loss, the Ravens drop to
3-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference. The Falcons improve to 6-4
overall and 2-1 in league play.
Freshman middle hitter Christina Sadowski (Salem, N.H./Salem) was
dominant, piling up 21 kills and three blocks, while classmate
Carey Demos (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) contributed 14 kills.
Junior setter Kristen Johnson (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann) directed
the offense for Bentley, totaling 41 assists. Leading the defense
was fellow junior Katie Markstein (La Jolla, Calif./The
Bishop’s School), who chipped in with 27 digs.
Franklin Pierce received a solid effort from sophomore outside
hitter Christina Collett
(Tombstone, Ariz./Tombstone), as she totaled 13 kills, eight
of which came in the third game of the match. Classmate Michelle McConnell (Elora,
Ontario/Centre Wellington) posted five kills and 18 digs,
while co-captain Tara Vece
(Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) led the Ravens with 26 digs.
Freshman setter Bria Williams
(Chino Valley, Ariz./Chino Valley) had 30 assists in
defeat.
Franklin Pierce (3-7, 2-4 NE-10) will next be in action on Friday
when they travel to Pace University for a Northeast-10 Conference
match beginning at 7 p.m. Bentley (6-4, 2-1 NE-10) will return to
action this weekend as they host the Bentley Fall Classic Friday
and Saturday.
