FITCHBURG, Mass. (April 9, 2022) -- Graduate student Katerina Dajia (Aurora, Ontario), senior Samantha DeSouza (Sebago, Maine) and sophomore Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.) all scored in a pair of events each on Saturday, as the throwing contingent of the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team led the way for the squad at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational, hosted by Fitchburg State.

The Ravens tallied 39 points on the day, which was good for sixth place in a 14-team field. Southern Maine took first place with 186.5 points, while host Fitchburg State was second (93 points). St. Joseph's (Maine) and Worcester State tied for third at 76 points, while Keene State (43 points) rounded out the top five.

Franklin Pierce had only part of the squad in action at Fitchburg State, and sophomore Angelique Coa was the only Raven to take to the track, as she partook in a pair of sprint events. Coa took 12th in both the 100 meters (14.37) and the 200 meters (30.12).

The remainder of the team's participation came in the throwing events. Three Ravens scored in the shot put, as Felton took fourth (11.50m), DeSouza finished fifth (10.95m), and Dajia was seventh (10.50m). Farther back, it was sophomore Beslen Childers (Wallingford, Conn.) in 10th (9.37m).

Much of the same crew was at it in the discus, where Dajia led the way in second (36.75m) and DeSouza scored points as well, in fifth (29.74m), while Childers took 12th (24.55m). Meanwhile, in the hammer, it was senior Julia Groll (Southington, Conn.) in third (41.26m) and Felton in fourth (40.37m). In the javelin, senior Jessica Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) took fourth (30.13m).

The Ravens will be involved in a pair of meets next weekend, as they travel to Connecticut College on Friday, April 15, and Southern New Hampshire on Saturday, April 16.
