MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. (March 26, 2022) -- Junior Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) picked up right where she left off on Saturday, as the track & field calendar tuned to the outdoor season. As the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field opened its outdoor campaign at the Trojan Challenge, hosted by Mount Olive, Young-Bey took wins in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes.

Young-Bey posted a 200-meter mark of 25.16 seconds and doubled up with a 400-meter run of 57.53 seconds. Saylee Missel followed behind in the 400, as she placed eighth, at 1:01.21.

Senior Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) took first in the 1500-meter run, with her 4:56 time. She was accompanied by graduate student Alena Masterson (Pelham, N.H.) and sophomore Meghan Sheline (Southington, Conn.), who took sixth and seventh, respectively, for their 5:18 and 5:20.43 times. It was five Ravens in the top 10 of the 1500, as junior Victoria Van Houten (Wantage, N.J.) took eighth (5:20.65) and graduate student Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) finished ninth (5:23). Thompson also took third in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:25.

In the pole vault, Teresa Deasy took second after clearing a height of 2.55 meters. In the high jump, Nouhayla Errahili made her Franklin Pierce debut and got up and over 1.65 meters to finish fourth. In the shot put, sophomore Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.) checked in with a throw of 11.93 meters to take sixth.

Making her collegiate track & field debut on Saturday, but not her Franklin Pierce athletics debut, was graduate student Katerina Dajia (Aurora, Ontario). Fresh off a New England Women's Hockey Alliance title and All-NEWHA Second Team honors this winter with the Ravens' women's ice hockey team, Dajia tied for 10th in the discus, with a throw of 34.57 meters.

The Ravens are back in action next weekend, when select athletes will travel to Florida for the Spikes Classic at Embry-Riddle. The remainder of the squad will be headed to Southern New Hampshire, for the SNHU Spring Invitational.
