Nyjah Young-Bey

BOSTON (February 24, 2022) -- Junior Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) of the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team earned a spot in a pair of event finals on Thursday, highlighting the first day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships for the Ravens at Reggie Lewis Center. Young-Bey turned in the top heat times in both the 400- and 200-meter dashes, both of which will conduct their final on Friday. Elsewhere, the Ravens picked up 19 points on Thursday, which was good for sixth place through the first day of the two-day, 11-team event.

Young-Bey was on the track first in the 400 meters, where she won the second of six heats, in a time of 57.52 seconds. She followed up later in the afternoon with a run of 25.34 seconds in the 200-meter event, which was good enough for a victory in the first of six heats. The final of the 400 meters is set for 1:50 p.m. on Friday, with the 200 meters to follow later, at 2:30 p.m. Also on the track in the 200 meters was Angelique Coa, who finished 21st, with a time of 29.50 seconds.

Earlier in the day, the 60-meter dash had opened proceedings on the track, and Coa finished 23rd, with a run of 8.78 seconds. Later, a heat victory in the second heat of the 800 meters put senior Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) through to Friday's 2:20 p.m. final, with a time of 2:20.64, which was the second-fastest of the day.

Young-Bey's two finals appearances, as well as Thompson's, will all earn points on Friday for Franklin Pierce.

Finally on the track, the distance medley relay team picked up eight points for the Ravens, by finishing second. A lineup of senior Alena Masterson (Pelham, N.H.), Saylee Missel, Thompson and graduate student Bethaney Donnelly (Manchester, United Kingdom) put together a time of 12:37.

As for field events, Franklin Pierce picked up seven points in the pole vault. Senior Stephanie Phoenix (Wallingford, Conn.) earned five of them by clearing 2.80 meters to finish fourth, while Teresa Deasy added two points by getting up and over 2.50 meters to take seventh. Outside the points, sophomores Emma Cutter (Newburyport, Mass.) and Grace Silva (Warren, R.I.) were 10th (2.20m) and 11th (1.90m), respectively.

In the weight throw, it was four points for sophomore Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.), who posted a throw of 13.25 meters to finish fifth. Fellow sophomore Beslen Childers (Wallingford, Conn.) followed outside the points in 15th, with a heave of 10.13 meters.

Brianha Bouchard narrowly missed out on scoring in the pentathlon, as she took ninth at 2597 points, just 44 points behind eighth place and the final scoring position. Bouchard's best performances in the five-discipline event, relative to the rest of the field, were third-place finishes in the long jump (4.89m) and the 800 meters (2:45.22).

The NE10 Championships will conclude on Friday at Reggie Lewis Center.
