Missel, Young-Bey, 4x800 Pick up Wins as Women’s Track & Field Competes at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (February 12, 2022) - It was one final tune-up prior to the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Saturday for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team. The Ravens were in action at MIT, for the Gordo Kelly Invitational. A pair of Ravens scored individual event wins, while the 4x800-meter relay squad was victorious as well.

In the 60-meter dash, second place went to junior Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.), with her time of 7.88 seconds. Young-Bey did one better in the 200-meter dash, where she took first with a time of 25.51 seconds. In the 400 meters, Saylee Missel took first for her time of 1:01.17.

At double the distance in the 800 meters, it was second place with a time of 2:27.6 for graduate student Bethaney Donnelly (Manchester, United Kingdom). She was followed directly by senior Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.), who took third with a time of 2:27.62, with just two-hundredths of a second separating the two. In the mile, graduate student Alena Masterson (Pelham, N.H.) took fourth with her time of 5:42.  

The Ravens won the 4x800-meter relay, with a team consisting of Masterson, Thompson, Donnelly, and sophomore Megan Sheline (Southington, Conn.), who put together a time of 10:15.

As for field events, senior Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) cleared 1.58 meters to finish third in the high jump. In the shot put, sophomore Tyra Felton (Sterling, Mass.) took sixth (11.37m), while senior Samantha DeSouza (Sebago, Maine) finished seventh (11.28m).

The Ravens now head into championship season, and those who are qualified will partake in the NE10 Championships on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 24-25, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
