Women’s Track & Field in Action at BU for Valentine Invitational

BOSTON (February 14, 2020) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team competed on Saturday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University.

In the 60-meter dash, freshman Destini Hill-Edwards (Paget, Bermuda) took 21st out of 80 runners with her 8.12-second performance. In the 400-meter dash, fellow freshman Nyjah Young-Bey (Montclair, N.J.) took 63rd out of 213 runners for her 57.98-second time. In the 200, Young-Bey returned to take 60th out of 295 runners for her time of 25.46 seconds. Hill-Edwards also returned to take 172nd for her 26.65-second performance.

In the 800 meters, it was sophomore Alana Thompson (Westampton, N.J.) who placed 149th in a 261-runner field, with a mark of 2:21.38.

Out of 41 jumpers in the high jump, sophomore Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) took second in the event after clearing 1.70 meters. In the shot put, freshman Julieth Nwosu (Brockton, Mass.) took 10th out of the 46-thrower field with a 13.22-meter throw. She was followed by Katey Comstock in 23rd with her 11.99-meter throw.

The 4x400-meter relay squad won its heat on the way to a 51st-place finish, with a time of 4:11.65. The lineup consisted of Young-Bey, Hill-Edwards, Thompson and junior Sara Joyce (Pepperell, Mass.).

The men's team will be in action at the Valentine Invitational on Saturday, and then the Ravens head back to Boston next weekend, for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, set for Feb. 20-21 at the Reggie Lewis Center.
