Tennis Continues Tour of the Sunshine State, Drops Second Straight

SAINT LEO, Fla. - (3/21/25) - The men's and women's tennis teams took on their second opponent down in the Sunshine state. Both teams fell to Saint Leo, the women's team lost 5-2 while the men lost 7-0.

Women's Results

Saint Leo secured a 5-2 victory over Franklin Pierce in the women's match, winning both the doubles and singles battles. In doubles play, Saint Leo dominated two of the three matches. Sophia Johnson and Kamilya Shailina defeated Zoe Asterio-Correa and Victoria Azcona 6-0, while Arianna Bettinelli and Karina Montoya secured a 6-0 win over Polina Georgieva and Ana Munoz. However, Franklin Pierce managed to take one doubles match, with Paz Diaz Florentin and Gabriella Yamate earning a 6-3 victory over Nora Catanzarite and Madelyn Martin.

In singles competition, Sophia Johnson claimed a hard-fought win over Polina Georgieva in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4). Karina Montoya cruised past Zoe Asterio-Correa, 6-3, 6-3, and Arianna Bettinelli defeated Victoria Azcona, 6-3, 6-2. Paris Marozzelli also added to Saint Leo's total with a 5-3, 6-4 win over Ana Munoz. Franklin Pierce picked up two singles victories, with Gabriella Yamate defeating Nora Catanzarite 6-2, 6-1, and Paz Diaz Florentin overcoming Alexandra Warchausky 6-3, 6-4. With a strong showing in both singles and doubles, Saint Leo emerged as the overall winner of the match.

Men's Results

Saint Leo dominated Franklin Pierce in their men's tennis match, securing a 7-0 sweep. In doubles play, Saint Leo claimed two of the three matches to earn the point. Eduardo Cohen and Kodai Kato defeated Joe Herin and Noe Martin 6-2 at the top spot, while Enes Kocu and Taiyo Hirano took down Ralph Hiebel and Alejandro Ortiz 6-3. Franklin Pierce managed a win in the third doubles match, with Hugo Diaz Avila and Orlando Guerrero edging out Leonardo Pisa and Theo Renoux in a tight 7-6 (7-4) battle.

In singles competition, Saint Leo continued their dominant performance. Eduardo Cohen fought past Noe Martin in a close 7-6, 6-2 victory, while Taiyo Hirano comfortably defeated Ralph Hiebel 6-3, 6-2. Enes Kocu made quick work of Alejandro Ortiz, winning 6-1, 6-1. Theo Renoux also contributed to the sweep with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Hugo Diaz Avila. The No. 1 singles match was won by default in favor of Saint Leo. Despite a singles win from Orlando Guerrero over Leonardo Pisa (6-3), Franklin Pierce was unable to secure any additional points, allowing Saint Leo to claim a clean 7-0 victory.
