Franklin Pierce Women's Tennis Receives Northeast-10 Team Academic Excellence Award

MANSFIELD, Mass. (6/27/2023) – Franklin Pierce University Women's Tennis is proving it not only competes on the court, but also in the classroom.

On Tuesday, the Northeast-10 announced the winners for the Team Academic Excellence Awards. It's a title that honors programs with the highest team GPA in each of the league's 24 sponsored sports.

Franklin Pierce Women's Tennis earned a 3.815 overall GPA, the second highest of any team and only .054 away from the top spot. Translating that to a letter grade, the women's tennis players are no strangers to seeing A's on their report cards.

"Amazing accomplishment," says Head Coach Alejandro Andres. "Incredible how this team can manage their time between working in the cafeteria, practice, fundraising, competing, and studying. I am proud to be able to tell everyone about your accomplishments and tell them that I am your coach."

The team's 2022-2023 campaign included an impressive run where they went 12-4 overall, 8-1 in-conference, and during the fall season made it all the way to the Northeast-10 Championship.

During the fall of 2022, five members of the eight-person team were selected as Northeast-10 All-Conference Honorees. For singles, graduate Ana Platisa (Belgrade, Serbia) made first team, senior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) made second team, and junior Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) made third.

Paired together, Loria and Platisa also made second team All-Conference for doubles. In April, sophomore Michela Montori (Lima, Peru) was named the Northeast-10 Women's Tennis Player of the Week.

In the early weeks of summer, senior Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, MA) received the Northeast 10's Presidents' Award and junior Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) made the Northeast 10 Academic All-Conference for the spring semester.
