Women's Tennis Records Fourth Straight Win Over Saint Michael's, 6-1 To Close Fall Regular Season

RINDGE, N.H. (10/12/22) – In their final match of the 2022 fall season, the Franklin Pierce women's tennis team defeated Saint Michael's College by a score 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon, claiming their fourth straight victory before heading into the upcoming Northeast-10 playoffs.

The Ravens round out the fall as the current #2 seed in the Northeast-10 standings, moving to 9-1 (8-1 NE10) overall following the home victory. The Purple Knights remain winless in their own fall season, slipping to 0-7 (0-7 NE10) overall with a pair of matches remaining.

The Ravens played slightly shorthanded versus the Purple Knights this afternoon, but opened the action by winning the doubles point with consecutive 6-0 victories at the No.1 and No.2 positions. The first court triumph belonged to the Raven pairing of Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) and Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario), while the second doubles victory came from Ana Platisa (Belgrade, Serbia) and Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.).

Liria Loria and Ana Platisa also gave the Ravens their first singles points with a wins at No. 1 and No.2 singles, with each posting a shutout win in two sets by repeating scores of 6-0. Zoe Asterio claimed the victory at the No. 3 position (6-0, 6-1) before Jillian Pagliuca gave the Ravens the team victory with a sweep at No. 4, 6-2 and 6-0. Freshman newcomer Kusum Aryal (Jaffrey, N.H.) kept the ball rolling for the Raven with her first ever collegiate singles win, battling through three sets (6-7, 6-3, 10-8) to claim the win.

Saint Michael's claimed a default victory at the No.6 position, due to no Raven opponent being available.

Women's tennis will take some time for themselves as they will await the official seeding and layout of the upcoming Northeast-10 playoffs, which is expected to be announced within the next week.
