Second Straight Doubles Sweep Launches Women's Tennis Past Bentley, 5-2

RINDGE. N.H (10/8/22) - The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team defeated Bentley University by a score of 5-2 in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown on a seasonable Saturday afternoon in Rindge, posting their second consecutive clean sweep in doubles competition.

With the home victory, the Ravens win their second straight match and move to 7-1 (6-1 NE10) on the season. Bentley, with the loss, drops to 2-5 (2-4 NE10) overall.

The Ravens opened the doubles sweep with a win at the No.3 position, coming in as a 6-0 shut out by senior Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario). From the other two courts, juniors Maria Penalver (Las Palmas, Spain) and Aynara Ferraz (Canary Islands, Spain) notched a 6-2 win at No. 2, while Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) and Ana Platisa (Belgrade, Serbia) clinched the doubles point for the Ravens with a 6-3 victory at first doubles.

In singles play, Franklin Pierce kept the streak going with wins at the first four courts. From No.3, Ana Platisa claimed the win by 6-2, 6-1 scores, which was followed by a victory at No. 1 by the same scores from Maria Penalver.  The Ravens claimed the match with their final two wins at fourth and second doubles, thanks to efforts from Zoe Asterio Correa (6-2, 6-2) at No.4, and Liria Loria (6-4, 6-4) at the No. 2 position.  

Bentley was able to spoil the shut-out bid for the Ravens, claiming two points with wins at the final two singles matchups from sophomore Chloe Arsenault (6-2, 6-1) and senior Anna Higgins (6-1, 6-1).

Up next, women's tennis will host Adelphi University on Tuesday, October 11th with first serve at 11 a.m right back at the Franklin Pierce Courts.
