Women's Tennis Rebounds With 6-1 Victory at Assumption University

WORCESTER, Mass. (10/7/22) - The Franklin Pierce women's tennis team returned to action on Friday afternoon, rolling to a 6-1 victory versus Assumption University in a Northeast-10 showdown.

Following the rebound triumph, women's tennis improves to 6-1 (5-1 NE10) overall with just three regular season matches remaining on the slate, all at home. The Greyhound slip to 3-6 (1-4 NE10) after the loss.

Each of the day's singles decisions, which including five wins for the Ravens (10-3, 6-0 Pac-12) came in straight sets. At No. 5 singles, senior Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.) clinched the overall victory in three sets (4-6, 7-5, 10-2) for the Ravens, which was preceded by a victory at No.3 by graduate Ana Platisa (Belgrade, Serbia), also in three sets (3-6, 6-1 and 6-1). Maria Penalver (Las Palmas, Spain), Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) and Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) additionally logged singles wins on the afternoon, as the lone victory for the Greyhounds was earned by Elizabeth McGreer.

Many of the names involved in singles success were also part of a clean sweep effort by the Ravens in doubles. From the first court, Ana Platisa and Liria Loria registered a dominating 6-2 win over opponents Aimee Figgins and Caitlyn Sze. In the final two matchups, Maria Penalver and Aynara Ferraz (Canary Islands, Spain), as well as Zoe Asterio Correa and Jillian Pagliuca, put together simultaneous 6-3 wins to secure the single available point from doubles.

It's a quick turnaround for women's tennis, who kicks off their remaining three home matchups on Saturday, October 8th where they will host Bentley University for a Noon start.
