Women's Tennis Brushes Past Saint Anselm, 4-3

MANCHESTER, N.H. (9/30/22) – After previously being rescheduled on two separate occasions, the Ravens and the Hawks finally got a chance to face one another in a Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis matchup, with Franklin Pierce narrowly escaping with a 4-3 victory.

Following the triumph, Pierce women's tennis moves to 4-0 (2-0 NE10) on the season with Saint Anselm sliding to 3-5 overall (2-2 NE10) with the close loss.

For the second straight match, the deciding point originated from doubles competition. At first doubles, Ana Platisa (Belgrade, Serbia) and Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) kept control of the action with a convinving 6-2 victory, which then translated to a similar effort from the Raven duo of Maria Penalver (Las Palmas, Spain) and Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) at No. 2 by the same outcome.

In singles action, Loria showed a dominating effort at No.2 with back-to-back 6-0 set victories, earning the complete shutout victory. Additionally, Ana Platisa was also able to mimic scores in two sets, giving the Ravens a boost with 6-2, 6-2 showing at third singles. The final win of the afternoon belonged to Zoe Asterio Correa, who secured the win for the Ravens with a fourth singles win by set scored of 6-3, and 6-2.

Women's tennis returns to action as the month turns over, where they will host the University of New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown on Sunday, October 2nd at Noon.
