Women's Tennis To Face Top-Ranked Barry University in Super Regional Opener

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (5/16/22) – The No. 16 seeded Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team has officially stepped out on the national stage, and will clash with nation's #1 seed Barry University in the super regional round of the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship for the second straight season. The match will take place on Tuesday, May 17th at Sanlando Park, and will start at Noon ET.

Entering the super regional with a 15-5 overall record, the Ravens move forward in the tournament with some momentum, advancing out of the East Region as the seventh seed with a pair of wins versus Queens College (N.Y) and District of Columbia as the seventh seed.  Their 4-0 shutout victory over District of Columbia in the regional final was their fourth matchup versus a ranked team this season.

From a statistics perspective, the Ravens walk into the matchup with a pair of ranked doubles teams, led by 23rd ranked graduates Anais Geslin (Livry-Gargin, France) and Himani Mor (Sonipat, India). Mor is also a member of the 37th ranked pairing with junior Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia), helping the program to 71.9 winning percentage in doubles.

The Buccaneers of Barry University have not lost a match this season (24-0) and have remained undefeated since the semifinal round of 2019 Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Tournament. Barry recently cleaned house in the South Regional Finals, defeating 14th-ranked West Florida 4-0 in the South Regional Finals in the hunt for their fifth straight national title.

Leading the way for the Bucs is top-ranked junior Deniz Khazan, who currently leads the SSC conference and south region in singles. Khazan is also a member in the third-ranked doubles pairing with partner Madeline Bosnjak, and has been ranked #1 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Division II Women's National Rankings since December 1st, 2021.

In their last matchup back in 2021, the Buccaneers took the win over the Ravens by a final score of 4-0. This is only the second all-time meeting between Barry Universty and Franklin Pierce.

The winner of the matchup will advance to face the winner of #8 Flagler and #9 St. Mary's (TX) on Wednesday, May 18th at 4 PM.
