WALTHAM, Mass. (April 21, 2021) -- On the road on Wednesday afternoon, the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team closed out an undefeated regular season and laid claim to the program's first ever Northeast-10 Conference regular season title. The Ravens dealt Bentley a 7-0 defeat, which marked the team's seventh shutout victory in nine matches on the year.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 9-0 (9-0 NE10), while Bentley falls to 2-7 (2-6 NE10).

Franklin Pierce cruised to victories in the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Third doubles went final first, as graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and sophomore Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.) chalked up a 6-1 win over sophomores Grace Bennett and Anna Higgins. It was a clean sweep at second doubles, as graduate student Estela Carra (Logrono, Spain) and freshman Zoe Asterio Correa (Toronto, Ontario) dispatched freshman Remi LeSage and sophomore Zoe Chin. Sophomore Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) and freshman Maria Penalver Aguilo (Las Palmas, Spain) rounded out doubles play with a 6-2 win over sophomore Makena Romagnano and junior Alessa Matuty.

Singles play was more of the same, as the Ravens held Bentley out of the win column on the day. It was especially clear sailing at fifth and sixth singles, where Franklin Pierce dropped just one game between two matches. At fifth singles, Carra blanked freshman Libby Keefe, 6-0, 6-0. At sixth singles, it was a 6-1, 6-0 win for Pagliuca over Bennett. The Ravens clinched the team match at first singles, as Penalver Aguilo pushed the score to 4-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Romagnano.

The Ravens added three other singles wins to close out the shutout. At third singles, Asterio Correa took care of LeSage, 6-2, 6-3. It was a 6-1, 6-1 decision at fourth singles, as Alvarez Tello went past Chin. Finally, at second singles, Mor scored a 6-1, 7-6 (4) victory over Matuty.

The Ravens will receive a bye in the first round of the upcoming NE10 Championship and will return to action at home for the quarterfinal round on Wednesday, April 28, against a to-be-determined opponent.
