RINDGE, N.H. (September 26, 2019) – The weather forced the match inside on Thursday afternoon, but the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was unfazed by the change. The Ravens took all nine matches contested on the day to post a 7-0, shutout victory over visiting Plymouth State in non-conference play.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 4-2, while Plymouth State falls to 6-3.

The Ravens were relatively untested while taking all three doubles matches to lay claim to the doubles point in the team match. The closest of the bunch came at second doubles, where freshmen Jazmin Flood (Laredo, Texas) and Laura Alvarez Tello (Vigo, Spain) doubled up the Plymouth State pair of juniors Kerstin Venincasa and Jenna Sundquist, 6-3. At first doubles, graduate student Himani Mor (Sonipat, India) and freshman Liria Loria (La Paz, Bolivia) swept aside junior Maggie McCarthy and freshman Megan Marshall, 6-0. At third doubles, seniors Brigid Washburn (Greentown, Pa.) and Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) dealt with freshmen Sage Winter and Hanna Street, 6-1.

It was more of the same across the day's six singles matches, of which only one required a third set. That lone match came at fourth singles, where Rich was able to grind out a 7-6 (4), 3-6, 10-6 victory over Venincasa.

Everywhere else on the singles ledger, it was straight-set wins for the homestanding Ravens. Mor was the most efficient, as she blanked McCarthy at first singles, 6-0, 6-0. Loria was not far behind at second singles, as she posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Winter. At third singles, Flood dispatched Marshall, 6-4, 6-2, while Washburn took care of Sundquist at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-3. Fifth singles required a first-set tiebreak, and both sets wound up tight, with freshman Jillian Pagliuca (Taunton, Mass.) picking up a 7-6 (6), 6-4 win over Street.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Southern New Hampshire for a Northeast-10 Conference match at 1 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
