RINDGE, N.H. (October 7, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated at home by New Haven, 4-0, in Northeast-10 Conference play on Sunday afternoon.

At the end of the day the Ravens will fall to a 2-9 (2-6 NE10) record while the opposing New Haven Chargers rise to a 6-2 (5-2 NE10) record.

The doubles point was awarded to the Chargers after they swept the doubles matches. Despite the loss, the Ravens pair of junior Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) and freshman Grayson LaCroix (Cherry Valley, Mass.) kept the match very close at second doubles, where they forced a tiebreak before falling, 7-6 (4).

Franklin Pierce junior Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) had a strong performance by pushing her match at first singles to the third set, but ultimately retired due to injury. Her New Haven counterpart, sophomore Stephanie Gonzalez, picked up a 3-6, 7-6 (6), 4-0 (ret.) victory.

Three matches were left unfinished after the team match was already decided. Even though the fourth singles match was unfinished. Franklin Pierce junior Brigid Washburn (Greentown, Pa.) was leading her opponent, New Haven senior Caitlyn Burridge, 3-1 in the third set of their match when things drew to a close.

The women's tennis team will be on the road for their next match on Wednesday, Oct. 10, against the Le Moyne Dolphins at 3 p.m. in Syracuse, New York.
