Grayson LaCroix

WORCESTER, Mass. (April 10, 2019)  The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on the road on Wednesday afternoon, 6-1, at Holy Cross in non-conference play.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-18, while Holy Cross improves to 8-10.

The only point of the day for Franklin Pierce came at third singles, where junior Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) and Holy Cross sophomore Katya Martin split the first two sets. With the team match already decided, the two played a 10-point tiebreak instead of a full third set, with Rich picking up a 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 victory.

The Ravens also picked up a win along the way at second doubles, where Rich teamed with freshman Grayson LaCroix (Cherry Valley, Mass.) to notch a 6-4 win over freshman Sophia Papa and senior Morgan McGuire. Holy Cross picked up victories at first and third doubles to claim the doubles point.

Holy Cross also posted wins at first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth singles to post the 6-1 victory in the team match. All four of the Crusaders' singles wins came in straight sets.

The Ravens return to the court on Saturday, April 20, when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas for a non-conference match at noon in Sparkill, N.Y.
