Women’s Tennis Blanked at Warner, 9-0

LAKE WALES, Fla. (March 21, 2019)  The Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team was defeated on the road on Thursday, 9-0, at Warner in non-conference play, to close out the team's three-match trip to Florida.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 2-17, while Warner improves to 8-9.

Warner opened with wins in all three doubles matches to open up a 3-0 lead early. The Royals would go on to take all six singles matches as well, all in straight sets, to finish off the 9-0 victory.

The most competitive match of the day came at third singles, where junior Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) put up a fight for the Ravens. She took Warner junior Marla Mesa Montoya all the way to a tiebreak in the first set, but was ultimately defeated, 7-6, 6-4.

Junior Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) and senior Shelli Safran (Boxborough, Mass.) were able to take five games apiece at first and sixth singles, respectively. Wyatt was defeated by sophomore Andrea Silva, 6-2, 6-3, while Safran was upended by sophomore Veronica Kamoi, 6-3, 6-2.

The Ravens are scheduled to return to the court on Saturday, April 20, when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas for a non-conference contest at noon in Sparkill, N.Y.
