PLYMOUTH, N.H. (October 13, 2016) – Freshman Alana Wyatt (Worcester, Mass.) and junior Sonia Rodrigues (Swansea, Mass.) won at first and second singles, respectively, after teaming for a win at first doubles on Thursday afternoon, leading the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's tennis team in a 7-2, non-conference win on the road at Plymouth State.

With the win, Franklin Pierce closes out the fall portion of its season at 4-10, while Plymouth State falls to 7-5.

The Ravens jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Thursday by sweeping the three doubles matches from the Panthers. At first doubles, Wyatt and Rodrigues rolled to an 8-2 win over Plymouth State sophomore Irene Ireme and senior Rachel Gustafson. At second doubles, senior Kara Brazel (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior Maria Quagliano (Branford, Conn.) gutted out an 8-6 win over freshman Alex Dunn and sophomore Megan Wheeler. Finally, at third doubles, it was a tight, 9-7 win for freshmen Sarah Rich (Windham, Maine) and Kelly O'Donnell (Maywood, N.J.) over junior Megan Wallace and sophomore Kelley Corson.

Singles play was highly competitive throughout the afternoon, with four of the six matches requiring a tiebreaker set after splitting the first two. Franklin Pierce would ultimately come away with four singles wins on the day. Wyatt and Brazel had it the easiest, with the former posting a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ireme at first singles, and the latter notching an 8-1 victory over Corson at third singles. Meanwhile, things were tougher at second and fourth singles for Rodrigues and Rich, respectively. Rodrigues ultimately pulled out a 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 win over Wallace, while Rich notched a 6-0, 3-6, 10-8 triumph over Gustafson.

Plymouth State's two points on the day came at fifth and sixth singles. At fifth singles, it was a 5-7, 6-2, 12-10 win for Dunn over O'Donnell, while Wheeler took a 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 decision from Quagliano.

The Ravens have closed out the fall portion of their 2016-17 campaign and will return to the court in the spring.
