Women's Soccer: Ravens Strike Early and Defeat In-State Rival St. Anselm Hawks in NE10 Quarterfinals Matchup 3-1

RINDGE, N.H. (11/5/2023) -- The Franklin Pierce women's soccer team, after losing both games in the regular season and being shut out by Saint Anselm, outpaced their in-state rival Hawks in a 3-1 victory to advance to the NE10 semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Claudia Peirce (Carver, Mass.) opened the scoring in the 3rd minute with a left-footed finesse shot that snuck past Hawk goalie Maggie Warner.

  • In the 13th minute, Brianna Trappet (New Castle, Australia) was in a cluster of bodies in the 18-yard box and was the one who came away with the ball and found the back of the net for the Ravens second goal.  

  • Roos Monsma (Hoofddorp, Netherlands) lofted a perfectly placed pass to Erin Keyt (Melbourne, Australia) who lightly tapped it over the sliding Hawk keeper Warner to give the Ravens another goal, leading 3-0. 

  • Tara McCleary got one back for the Hawks after the Ravens failed to clear out of the 18-yard box and McCleary facing contact lifted one to the top left corner and got it past a diving Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.).  

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS: 

  • Fox made 3 saves on 4 shots. Warner made 6 saves on 9 shots. 

  • Franklin Pierce outshot Saint Anselm 13-9 

  • Both Franklin Pierce and Saint Anselm had 6 corners each.
