Women's Soccer: One Goal From Peirce and a Shutout From Fox Lift Ravens Past AIC in 1-0 Victory

SPRINGFIELD, MASS (11/1/2023) – Franklin Pierce women's soccer extended its win streak to three games to close out the team's regular season Wednesday night in a 1-0 victory over the Yellow Jackets of AIC.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The lone goal of the game was scored by Franklin Pierce in the 27th minute. After a ball was intercepted by the Yellow Jacket defense near the top of the box, sophomore Claudia Peirce (Carver, Mass.) recaptured control of the ball and darted down field. With two defenders trailing and the AIC goalie pressing out, Peirce fired a shot by the goalie giving the Ravens the lead.
  • No other goals were scored in the game but the opportunities to tie it up were plentiful. Standing strong in net, junior goalkeeper Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied six saves and recorded the shutout.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS:

  • Though Pierce came out on top, AIC pushed hard offensively, outshooting FPU 16 to 11.
  • On the corners, FPU had the upper hand with eight opportunities compared to AIC's five.

NEXT FOR THE RAVENS:

  • Franklin Pierce returns to Rindge for a quarterfinal Northeast-10 conference game on Sunday against Saint Anselm College. Kickoff is set for 1 PM.
