RINDGE, N.H. (10/19/2023) – The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer program recorded its 5th tie of the season Wednesday night after 3-3 final against No. 15th nationally ranked Adelphi University.

The Ravens move into the final four games of their season with a 3-4-5(2-3-2, NE10) record.

Action kicked off quickly on Sodexo Field as the Adelphi Panthers were first to get on the board in the seventh minute. Off a corner kick, AU's Isabella Banellis finished her shot in the back of net going ahead 1-0.

Minutes later the Ravens got on the board to tie the game. FPU's Claudia Peirce (Carver, Mass.), who was a force all game for the Ravens, pushed the ball up field. Moments before she entered the goalie crease, Peirce hit a cross pass to Gianna DeRose (Brewster, N.Y.) who hit a left footer by Adelphi's goalkeeper. Just 12 minutes into the game, both teams had a goal each.

In the 16th minute, Adelphi claimed the lead for a second time. The Ravens and Panthers fought for the ball deep in the Raven's defensive zone, but a failed clearing pass by the Ravens landed at the foot of an Adelphi offensive player. The ball was then passed to AU's Micaella Romagno, who quickly sent it over to Alexis Hellman at the top of the box. A quick step right and then left gave Hellman just enough space to fire a left footer. The shot went bottom left just out of reach of Franklin Pierce goalie Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.).

Adelphi held the lead for about ten minutes until FPU's Claudia Peirce again answered the call for the Ravens. The play started with a goal kick from Emilie Fox which sailed to about midfield. There, Gianna DeRose, who scored FPU's first goal, hit a header to down field towards Claudia Peirce and an Adelphi Defender. It turned into a footrace and Peirce turned on the jets. Originally five yards behind, Peirce used her speed to blow by the Adelphi defender, secure possession about 30 yards from the goal, and head down field. Adelphi's goalie pressed out of net but Peirce jetted left leaving the keeper in the dust. Once she was clear of all defenders and the goalie, Peirce finished the play with a left footer into the empty net evening the score 2-2 in the 26th minute.

After four goals in the first 26 minutes, neither team found the back of the net until late in the second half.

In the 78th minute on a counter attack, FPU's Grace Martin hit a cross directly at Adelphi's Isabella Banellis. In her attempt to clear the ball out, Banellis kicked the ball straight into her own net for an own goal which made the score 3-2 and gave the Ravens their first lead of the game.

Later in the 84th minute, a loud mixture of cheering and booing came from fans watching the game at Sodexo field.

A long ball kicked by Adelphi landed right in the hands of Emilie Fox. Securing the ball, she walked up field as her teammates jogged away ready to receive the kick from the keeper. As Fox set up for her kick, the referee's whistle blew and a silence blanketed Sodexo as players and fans were confused. The ref jogged down to Fox and gave her a yellow card for time wasting.

The called resulted in a free kick for the Panthers with just over five minutes in the game. Adelphi's Mogan Salmon lined up and kicked the ball which was immediately blocked but the shot pinballed across the top of the box. After bouncing off several Ravens and Panthers, Adelphi's Gia Mandile grabbed possession and as soon as she caught the ball she fired a shot bottom left which ended up in the back of the net. With the goal the game went on to finish in a 3-3 draw.

Krista Aliscio (7-1-3) made two last-minute saves to keep the game tied, she finished with three saves

Emilie Fox (3-4-5) made one save in the draw.
