Quartet of Women's Soccer Players Receive USC All-East Region Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (12/8/22) – With postseason awards making their way to the table, it was unveiled by United Soccer Coaches (USC) that four members of the Franklin Pierce women's soccer program received All-East Region honors for their efforts this past season. Of the list, junior Aino Martikainen (Jarvenpaa, Finland) and sophomore Jasmine Perez-Acosta (Cape Coral, Fla.) were named to the All-Region First Team, while freshman Pinja Eklund (Klaukkala, Finland) and sophomore Salome Kerguillec (Landerneau, France) were named to the All-Region Second Team.

For both Martikainen and Perez-Acosta, it is the second time receiving USC All-Region honors in their collegiate careers.

Martikainen was named the NE10 Defensive Player of the Year this fall, and has served as a key component in the Franklin Pierce front that allowed just 0.84 goals as well as 4.57 shots on goal allowed per game. That same defensive corps was responsible for 11 total shutouts throughout that span, as the team cruised to a 16-4-3 record. As a starter, Martikainen saw the field in each of the Ravens 23 games this fall, and finished second-overall on the lineup in scoring with 16 points, including six goals and three assists. Previously, the Raven defender was selected to the USC All-East Region Second Team.

In 19 games played this season, Jasmine Perez-Acosta was also a top-three finisher in team scoring this season, totaling six goals and one assist for 13 points. Her 48 shot attempts were good for second-highest on the team, as the Raven sophomore also had four attempts on penalty kicks, scoring on 2-of-4 attempts. Nearing the end of the fall, Perez Acosta secured her second All-Northeast-10 First Team honor of her career, and additionally earned D2CCA All-East Region Second Team honors this season.

Freshman defender Pinja Eklund, a selectee to the All-Northeast-10 Second Team, stood out in her first collegiate season having started in 23 of the Ravens' 24 contests. Similar to Martikainen, Eklund was a constant presence on the defensive end for the Ravens, helping them along as one of the top defenses in the region. Sophomore forward Salome Kerguillec came out of her introductory season to become the team's scoring leader this fall, totaling 17 points on six goals and five assists. Upon the conclusion of the campaign, Kerguillec earned both All-Northeast-10 First Team and D2CCA All-East Region Second Team honors.

The Ravens regular season came to a close in the NCAA Championship Quarterfinal versus No.2 West Chester, as the team battled it out to their third double overtime decision of the postseason, falling 2-1.
