RINDGE, N.H. (October 16, 2021) – The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team surrendered the first goal on Saturday night at Sodexo Field, but that would be it. The Ravens had the lead before halftime and wound up pouring in four unanswered tallies, on the way to a 4-1 win over visiting Adelphi in Northeast-10 Conference play. Four different players found the net, while freshman Jasmine Perez-Acosta (Cape Coral, Fla.) dished out a pair of assists.

Franklin Pierce improves to 7-3-2 (4-3-2 NE10) with the win, while the Panthers fall to 4-4-2 (4-4-1 NE10).

Adelphi took a 1-0 lead just 5:17 into the contest. The Panthers started with a free kick from just across midfield, and sent a long pass to senior Jacklyn Lada just outside of the box. Lada headed the ball towards the net, where senior Maria D'Angelo met it with a sliding redirection to pick up her third goal of the season.

Just over 10 minutes later, in the 17th minute, the Ravens brought the score to 1-1. A Franklin Pierce throw in found its way into the Panther box and off of a body before junior Viridinia Vazquez Kloss (Veracruz, Mexico) caused a turnover. She volleyed her shot into the bottom-right corner of the net to tally her fourth goal of the year.

The game remained tied until late in the first half, when Franklin Pierce was awarded a free kick from just outside of the box in the 42nd minute. Freshman Aino Martikainen (Järvenpää, Finland) took her time and then played directly to the goal, as she fired a shot past the diving Adelphi netminder to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

As the rain began to fall on Sodexo Field, the Ravens continued to apply the pressure and added a pair of goals in the second half to build the 4-1 final score. The first came in the 63rd minute, when Perez-Acosta put a shot on net from the right side of the box that was saved by the Adelphi goalie. Freshman Mackenzie Shean (Agawam, Mass.) followed the ball and hammered home the rebound for her first collegiate goal.

The fourth and final goal of the game for Franklin Pierce came in the 84th minute. Perez-Acosta collected her second assist of the game, as she found freshman Eleonora Franco (Verona, Italy) in front of the goal for some late insurance, on the latter's team-leading sixth goal of the year.

Freshman Gabby Calidonio (Flagler Beach, Fla.) started the game in net and earned the win (6-2-2) after making eight saves on nine shots on goal. Senior Sarah Hofmeier (3-4-1) stopped seven of 11 shots in a losing effort at the other end of the field.

The Ravens are back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20, on the road at NE10 foe American International.
